Hi!
February is upon us. For the last year, we have made Cross Point keenly aware of the Building Fund Campaign to reduce our debt so that Cross Point can be a brighter light in our community. This month, we will celebrate what has been accomplished and refocus our thoughts and attention on completing the task before us.
The graphic for our campaign is a lighthouse. It is hard to put a value on a lighthouse and the work it accomplishes. We only know of the destruction caused when a lighthouse is not functioning.
But many things can cause a lighthouse to cease living up to its purpose. There is an old story about a lighthouse keeper who worked on a rocky stretch of coastline. Once a month, he would receive a new oil supply to keep the light burning so ships could safely sail near the rocky coast.
One night a woman from a nearby village came and begged the keeper for some oil to keep her family warm. Another time a father asked for some to use in his lamp. Another man needed to lubricate a wheel. Since all the requests seemed legitimate, the lighthouse keeper tried to please everyone and grant all requests.
Toward the end of the month, he noticed his oil supply was dangerously low. Soon it was gone, and the light on the lighthouse went out one night. As a result, that evening, several ships were wrecked, and countless lives were lost. When the authorities investigated, the man was very apologetic. He told them he was trying to be helpful with the oil. However, their reply to his reasons was simple and to the point: "You were given oil for one purpose, and one purpose only - to keep that light burning!"
Cross Point has traversed our first year in the Imagine the Possibilities Building Fund Campaign. We have watched as God has provided, and faithful people have responded in obedience. As we embark upon another year, our purpose has not changed. Our commission has not waivered. Our determination must stay resilient.
This is an opportunity for a re-enlisting in the mission we signed on for a year ago. God has shown us His vision. To follow through, we require the “oil” of the Holy Spirit to empower and sanctify us as holy vessels or lighthouses.
Let your light continue to shine!
Love,
Pastor Vondie
