There's an old porchlight tradition you leave it on so whoever's making their way home in the dark knows there's a place for them. Many grandmas and grandpas kept theirs on every night, rain or shine, whether or not they were expecting company. "You never know," they'd say, "who might need to see it."
September is a "porch light" month for Cross Point.
Who's YOUR One? On September 20, we're celebrating Friend Day with a simple but pointed theme: Who's YOUR One? Not a program. Not a project. Just one person — a family member, a friend, a co-worker, a neighbor — that God has been laying on your heart. Somebody you've thought about more than once. Somebody you've maybe even prayed for without knowing quite why.
That's not a coincidence. That's the Spirit putting a name on your heart the way Grandma Ruth put a light on her porch.
So here's your assignment for the next few weeks: pay attention to who that is for you. Then invite them. Not to a performance, not to a pitch — just to church, to sit beside you, to see for themselves what you've found here. You don't have to have the answers. You just have to leave the light on and open the door.
A Word on Faith Promise. September also kicks off our season of focus on Faith Promise Missions — our church's commitment to giving beyond our walls, trusting God to provide as we provide for others. We'll unpack the full vision for this in the weeks ahead, so for now, just start praying about what part you might play. Consider this the light flickering on before the porch is lit.
Back to School — Covering Our Own. And finally, our kids, our teens, and the teachers and staff who spend their days with them are back in the halls of our schools. That's no small thing. New routines, new pressures, new relationships to navigate — all of it matters to God, and it matters to us. This month, let's be intentional about praying by name for the students and school personnel God has placed in our lives. A short prayer over breakfast. A note left in a locker. A word of encouragement to a tired teacher. Small things, held up in prayer, tend to carry more weight than we expect.
So this September — leave your light on. Invite your one. Give as you're led. Pray for our schools. It's a full month, but it's the good kind of full.

Paving the Way: Investing in Cross Point's Future
In August, Cross Point launched the Paving the Way Fundraiser, a congregation-wide effort to repave a significant portion of our church parking lot. The older section of the lot, along with the three-lane connector to Crescent Road, has worn down over the years due to age, weather, and heavy use. Left unaddressed, this deterioration means rising maintenance costs, growing safety concerns, and a first impression that doesn't reflect who we are as a church.
As stewards of Cross Point's physical resources, the Elder Board identified this resurfacing project as a necessary capital improvement — one that protects our investment in this space and ensures a safe, welcoming entrance for members, guests, and our surrounding community for years to come.
The total project cost is estimated at $110,000. With the congregation's overwhelming approval, Cross Point will use $50,000 from the Building Fund, secure a line of credit for the remaining balance, and invite our church family to help fund the difference.
Contribution cards were distributed in August, but it's not too late to join in. The Paving the Way Fundraiser runs September 1, 2026 through January 31, 2027, and everyone is welcome to participate — whether or not you submitted a card.

End of Summer Bash: A Night of Fun, Food, and Fellowship
On Wednesday, August 19, Cross Point kicked off the final stretch of summer with our End of Summer Bash — a night packed with great food, laughter, and connection for the whole church family.
The evening's centerpiece was a huge water slide that kept kids cooling off and having a blast, along with foam bubbles that turned the church grounds into a soapy playground. The Beckley Police Department joined in with a special demonstration, giving families a fun, hands-on look at the work our local officers do.
But beyond the slides and suds, the real highlight was simply being together. Moments like these remind us why gathering as a church family matters — it's in the everyday, joy-filled moments that real connection happens and community grows.
Thank you to everyone who came out, volunteered, and helped make the night such a success. Here's to a great end of summer and an even better season ahead!

The next round of Wednesday Adult Small Groups kicks off on September 23, and we want you in one. The Fall Session Small Groups will last 5 weeks and end on October 21. Cross Point Church’s Women’s Book Club will meet on Tuesday, September 15 at 10:30 A.M. in the church conference room. Our discussion will focus on the book “The Forge” by Chris Fabry. The book is based on the motion picture produced by the Kendrick Brothers. Cynthia Wright’s marriage implodes and she is forced to raise her son, Isaiah, alone. Angry and hurt, Isaiah begins to act like the father who abandoned him. “The Forge” is about the power of prayer, the transformation only God can achieve, and the lasting influence one person can have on others. You are welcome to join us as we discuss this book and how prayer can influence not only our life but the lives of ones we love!

Ignite Preteen Small Group
Students in grades 4th through 7th won't want to miss Ignite — a special small group just for them! Starting September 13, Ignite will meet every Sunday for six weeks (through October 18) at Pastor Rhonda's home in Beaver.
The group will meet immediately following church, with transportation provided on Cross Point's bus. Lunch is included, and parents can pick up their child at 2:30 PM at Pastor Rhonda's home.

Spring reminds us that God makes all things new. As the world comes alive again after this harsh winter, Touch Life is believing for fresh beginnings, restored hope, and hearts awakened to Jesus.
We are reaching for the lost with renewed passion and concern in this new season. Touch LIFE (Lifting Individuals For Eternity) is a prayer ministry dedicated to interceding for lost people to come to know Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. This faithful group of prayer warriors meets on the first Sunday of each month at 8:30 AM in Room 105 to lift up those who need to encounter the saving grace of Jesus. Whether you're a seasoned intercessor or just learning to pray, you're welcome to join us. There's no greater privilege than partnering with God to see lives transformed by the gospel.
