The Basin and the Towel
In the final hours before his arrest, Jesus gathered with those he loved most and did something no one expected — he knelt down and washed their feet. John tells us Jesus loved his disciples eis telos — not just to the end, but "to the uttermost." A love without limit, without condition, without hesitation.
The Before I Go series walks through John 13 and 14, entering the most intimate moments of Jesus' ministry. With betrayal hours away, Jesus didn't demand honor or rally his followers with a battle cry. Instead, he modeled servant leadership, issued a radical command to love, offered peace to troubled hearts, and reminded us that apart from him, we can do nothing. These final words weren't a farewell — they were a foundation. Everything Jesus said before he went was meant to carry his disciples forward, and they still carry us today.
