The ridgelines that seemed so gray and bare through the long winter suddenly begin to show green again — almost overnight, it seems — and the world that looked finished quietly announces that it is not done yet. That is precisely the message of Easter. What looked like an ending was, in the hands of God, only the beginning.

Why We Celebrate
Easter is the cornerstone of the Christian faith. On that first Resurrection Sunday, Jesus of Nazareth — crucified, buried, and sealed behind a stone — walked out of an empty tomb. The Apostle Paul captured it plainly in 1 Corinthians 15:17: "If Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile." But He was raised. And that changes absolutely everything.

The Resurrection means that sin has been defeated, that death does not have the final word, and that every person who places their trust in Jesus Christ has been offered the gift of eternal life. It is not merely a historical event to be remembered — it is a living reality to be experienced. Every time we gather as the church, we are a community shaped by an empty tomb.

What the Resurrection Means for You
Easter is the answer to the deepest questions of the human heart. Is there hope when life falls apart? Is there grace when we have failed? Is there something on the other side of loss? The empty tomb answers: yes, yes, and yes. Throughout West Virginia's history, our people have known hardship — closed mines, hard winters, the kind of struggles that tempt a person to believe the stone will never roll away. But generation after generation, the resurrection message has carried our communities forward. Not because life is easy, but because we serve a God who is not stopped by sealed tombs or impossible odds.

Bring Someone With You
Cross Point family, we want to ask you to do one simple thing before April 5th: invite someone.

Think about the people in your life who have drifted away from church, or who have never really experienced what it means to be part of a community of faith. Think about the friend who is carrying something heavy right now, or the family member who doesn't know where to turn. An old neighbor. A coworker. Someone you've been meaning to reach out to for a while now. Easter Sunday is one of those rare occasions when an invitation feels completely natural. You don't have to have a speech prepared. You simply say: "Hey, why don't you come with me on Easter? It's going to be a great morning." That's it. That is often all it takes.

He is risen. He is risen indeed. And I will see you on Easter Sunday.

Love,
Pastor Vondie and Lori

Little Voices, Big Faith

Adventure Alley kids led the congregation in "Goodbye Yesterday" during both services on Sunday, March 22 — filling the room with the kind of energy, joy, and wholehearted worship that only childlike faith can bring.

Men's Ministry

Brothers of the Way Men’s Ministry Update

Greetings, Cross Point family! Spring is finally here, and we are grateful — grateful for the season, and even more grateful for what God is doing among the men of our church. We have a lot to share with you this month, so let’s dive in.

Ignite Men’s Conference Recap

In March, more than a dozen men from Cross Point made the trip to Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia, for the Ignite Men’s Impact Weekend — and what a weekend it was. With 4,500 men gathered from as far away as Hawaii, the energy in that place was something you had to experience to believe. Many attendees came with their elderly fathers or young sons by their side, and that image alone said everything about what Ignite is all about. The theme this year was “Forged” — forged in fire. In a culture that too often tells men that masculinity is something to be ashamed of, this conference was a bold, Spirit-filled reminder that God calls men to courage, integrity, and faithfulness.

Friday Evening: Faith vs. Trust
Friday evening was highlighted by Pastor Tim Timberlake, a favorite among those of us who have attended before. His message centered on the difference between faith and trust. Many of us believe that God can do great things — but do we trust Him enough to put our lives fully in His hands? Tim brought this to life through the story of Peter walking on water in Matthew 14. When Jesus called him out of the boat, Peter went — and for a moment, he walked. But when fear crept in, he began to sink. The takeaway? Faith gets you in the boat. Trust gets you walking on the water.

Saturday: Stories That Shake You
Saturday brought more powerful moments. John Wayne Walding, a former Army Green Beret, shared his testimony from the battlefield in Afghanistan — a story of survival, faith under fire, and raw dependence on God. After being shot by a sniper and fighting for four hours with a devastating injury, his prayer was simple: “God, this is all I’ve got.” That testimony will stay with every man who heard it. Pastor Rick Rigsby and Coach Tony Dungy also brought dynamic, uplifting messages that rounded out an incredible day. If you’ve never heard either of them speak, we highly recommend seeking out their work.

We want every man in the life of Cross Point to experience this conference. It never disappoints. Mark your calendars: next year’s Ignite Conference is March 12–13, 2027, at Thomas Road Baptist Church in Lynchburg, VA. Tickets are available now at www.ignitemen.net. Reach out to Jason Bess or Rich Hampton with any questions — they’ve both attended multiple times and would love to tell you more.

Introducing: Brothers of the Way

Your Men’s Ministry team has spent intentional time in prayer, seeking the direction of the Holy Spirit for this new season. We’re excited to share that He has given us a name and a sense of calling for our ministry: Brothers of the Way — BOW for short. Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth, and the life.” We believe that for men to lead their families, their workplaces, and their communities well, it can only happen as disciples of Jesus — walking in His way of unconditional love, truth, peace, and holiness. That’s the kind of unity and fellowship our world so desperately needs to encounter through His people.

We are also working to establish a media presence to reach our community, along with an information page on the Cross Point website. We hope to have that in place within the next few weeks.

What’s Coming Up

Spring Cleaning Work Day — May
Men love to work, and we’re putting that to good use! We’re planning a Spring Cleaning event at the church campus in May, tackling projects both inside and out. Jason Bess will be providing lunch that day — so wear your loose-fitting work pants and come ready to roll up your sleeves. More details on the date to come.

Summer Retreat on the New River
We’re also planning a two-day summer retreat on the banks of the New River — time around the campfire, time in the wilderness, and time to connect with God and with one another. More details will be coming next month. You will not want to miss this one.

Keep Praying With Us

Please continue to lift Brothers of the Way up in prayer. God is always at work in the background, even when he seems silent. This powerful truth is evident in the book of Esther—a story of God’s providence and the preservation of his people during their exile in Persia. In this seven-session series, Rev. Dr. Danielle Brown will help us see that despite moral corruption, national chaos, and the emotional turmoil of the main characters, God will never abandon his people and is positioning us for a purpose bigger than we can imagine.

Train to Run with Horses
Wednesday @ 6:30 PM in Room 107

Description: Do you find yourself questioning God as to why certain things happened the way they did? Why did he allow a challenging situation in your life? What was the point of all that suffering? Perplexed by his own suffering, the prophet Jeremiah asked God, “Why does the way of the wicked prosper? Why do all the faithless live at ease?” God answered Jeremiah’s questions with one of His own: “If you have raced with me on foot and they have worn you out, how can you compete with horses?” We will look at the ups and downs of our lives. In all of them, God is working on us with the ultimate goal of training us to race with horses.

Young at Heart
Wednesdays @ 2:00 PM in Room 107
Facilitators: Vondie Cook Sr. & Dana Hosch
Description: A special time just for our seniors!

Register Now

All Together Service | April 8 at 6:30 PM

Wednesday, April 8th is going to be a night you won't want to miss! Our discussion will focus on the book “The Mercy Tree” by Sharlene MaClaren. The author is a retired English teacher who has won several awards for the books she has written. The Mercy Tree is the story about how past events can upend a family’s life. Henry, a well-respect pastor and his family face tough questions about faith, redemption and preserving a reputation while trying to “right the wrong” which surfaced from the past events. The book reminds us that even when we feel overwhelmed our God is in control. "Partnerships like this exemplify what it means to care for our neighbors and strengthen our community."

This outreach is a beautiful example of what happens when the body of Christ acts with compassion and generosity. Because of your faithful giving, 170 children in our area are experiencing not just physical warmth, but also the love of a church family that cares deeply
about their well-being. Thank you, Cross Point, for your continued dedication to outreach and service. Together, we are making a real difference in the lives of local families—one coat, one child, one act of kindness at a time.

Men's Ministry Kicks Off Strong

Something special happened on February 8 — and the men of Cross Point showed up for it.
More than 30 men gathered for the Men's Ministry Kickoff Celebration, and the energy in the room made it clear this is a ministry with momentum. We had a Super Bowl Spread that had everything from sweet treats to a few boxes filled with Big Legursky’s from Calacino’s.
During halftime we took a cue from Pastor Rob and had a half time activity in the gym. The men were challenged to be blindfolded and make their way thru a rope maze. The first one to make it out would win. I wish we would have videoed this, it would make a great highlight reel. The catch was there was no way out of this confusing maze using only your instincts and your hands to guide your way. The only way out was to ask for help. So many of us men attempt to go thru this maze of life in our own strength. In our culture we have been conditioned to do it ourselves. Our Lord Jesus taught something truly different. The Apostle Paul records in 2 Corinthians 12 about a thorn in his flesh. He said in order to keep him from being conceited, he was given a thorn in his flesh. A messenger from Satan to torment him. Paul explains He pleaded with the Lord three times to take it away. It says that Jesus answered him, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Paul understood the assignment, He stated “For when I am weak, then I am strong.” So many times we go thru life hurting and at the same time putting on a face that tells the world I got it all together. The truth is we all need help. Life is hard.

The vision The Holy Spirit gave to us, was to create a Men’s Ministry focused first on connecting men together in real and relevant ways. We were meant to walk together, not alone. Even when Jesus sent them out to work, he sent them two by two. We are truly stronger together In Christ. Our focus this year is to create moments were the Men of Cross Point of all ages can form bonds of trust, and transparency in Christ. To learn and lean on one and other, to be the Men of God we are called to be in our homes, work, and community.

In this season of listening for God’s voice guiding our next steps, He is leading our conversations, planning events for this spring, summer and fall. We are also working on our
communication and connection platforms for all generations. We will have more information to share with you next month as those pieces come together.

February 8th wasn't just an event. It was a beginning.

God is doing something in the men of Cross Point, and if this was any indication, the best is still to come. Stay tuned — you won't want to miss what's ahead.

Please join us in prayer, that the Lord will continue to lead us to His plan and purpose.

Men’s Ministry Leadership Team

Pastor's Note

A New Season Is Upon Us

Spring is approaching, and for many of us, it is one of the most anticipated times of the year. There is something deeply refreshing about this season — the return of warmth, the renewal of life, and the quiet sense that something new is just around the corner. Nature itself seems to declare that growth and fresh beginnings are not only possible, but inevitable.

As we move into March 2026, we at Cross Point are embracing this season with great expectation and open hearts. The Apostle Paul reminds us in 2 Corinthians 5:17, *"Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!"* — a truth that feels especially alive in a season like this.

And there is much to be excited about! Across our congregation, we are witnessing God at work in remarkable ways. From individuals responding to His call into ministry, to others experiencing His transforming power in their personal lives, the Spirit of God is moving among us. This is not a season to sit still — it is a season to lean in, pay attention, and position ourselves to be part of what God is doing in and through our church family.

So we want to encourage every member of Cross Point to watch for God's activity in your life. He is at work around you, even in the moments you least expect. Look for opportunities to serve Him — both within the ministries of our church and in the wider community beyond our walls. New doors are opening, new possibilities are emerging, and new invitations to join His work are being extended. Do not miss what this season has to offer. We’ve learned from Scripture that God spoke to His people in ancient times and in mysterious ways, but how do we hear His voice now? The truth is God still communicates with His people, but He often speaks in a whisper—not to make it difficult to hear Him, but to draw us close. This class explores what it means for Christians to discern the voice of God in their lives. God is speaking. These cards are small, simple, and intentional, perfect for sharing with a coworker, a neighbor, a family member, or anyone God places on your heart. Sometimes an invitation is all it takes to help someone take a step toward community, hope, and spiritual growth. Many people are more open than we realize; they’re simply waiting for someone to reach out.

Inviting others isn’t about filling seats, it’s about extending the love of Christ. Every invitation carries the potential to change a life, strengthen a family, or spark a journey of faith. When you hand someone an info card, you’re not just giving them details about a church service; you’re offering them a chance to experience belonging, encouragement, and the presence of God among His people.

So as you pass by the display, grab a few cards. Pray over them. Ask God who He might be calling you to invite. And then step out with confidence, knowing He can use even the smallest gesture to make a lasting impact.

Pastor's Note

As we move into February, we're launching a new sermon series that couldn't be more timely for our families and our church community: "Family Values: A Christ-Centered Home."
Think about the houses built into the hillsides in our area. The ones that last—the ones that survive heavy rains, mudslides, and harsh winters—are the ones with solid foundations dug deep into bedrock. The ones that don't make it? They were built on shifting soil, shortcuts taken, and foundations compromised.

Jesus told a parable about two builders—one wise, one foolish. The difference wasn't in the quality of their lumber or the beauty of their design. The difference was in the foundation. When the storms came—and they always come—only the house built on rock remained standing.

In this series, we'll explore what it means to build our homes, our families, and our faith on the only foundation that holds: Jesus Christ.

What to Expect:

Week 1: The Foundation Makes All the Difference
Christ is the foundation for building our house of faith that can weather any storm. Like a mountain home anchored to solid rock, a life built on Christ can withstand whatever winds blow against it. Application Point: A Christ-centered home begins with a Christ-centered adult. Knowing what you believe and modeling that faith is the primary way you can impact your family for Jesus.

Week 2: Heart Work Over Performance
A Christ-centered family is more concerned with its members' hearts than with pretending to be perfect or ruling with an iron fist. It's not about having everything look right from the outside while the inside crumbles. Application Point: Authenticity and grace must shape how we lead our families—focusing on transformation, not just conformity.

Week 3: Redemption and the Long Game
Christ redeems all things for those who find their hope in him. Even when we've built poorly, even when storms have damaged what we thought was secure, God specializes in restoration. Application Point: A Christ-centered home is one that practices perseverance, has faith in God's long-game plan, and finds strength in the Spirit.

Week 4: No One Carries the Load Alone
God doesn't make us carry a burden alone when we are being crushed under it. Just as neighbors come together to help rebuild after a flood, God designed us for community in His church. Application Point: The Christ-centered family is not an island; it understands and practices community.

Why This Matters Now:
Whether you're building a new family, rebuilding after loss, or simply maintaining what God has already established in your life, this series will provide biblical wisdom and practical tools. We'll talk about real challenges, honest struggles, and the hope that can only come from building on Christ.

I'm looking forward to walking through this journey with you. Bring your questions, your stories, and your open hearts. Let's build something together that will last—not just for a season, but for generations.

Love,
Pastor Vondie and Lori

Winter Small Groups Session 2 Begin March 4th

The next session of small groups will begin on March 4 and run for 5 weeks, concluding on April 1. This course provides insights into how you can meet people wherever they are in their spiritual journeys, exploring faith in a way that is authentic, empathetic, and thought-provoking.

You’ll discover how to cultivate a culture of curiosity and connect with those who are exploring their spiritual beliefs, offering them a safe space to ask questions, wrestle with doubts, and grow in their journey of faith.

If you’re passionate about sharing your faith in honest and thoughtful ways, this course will challenge and encourage you to approach evangelism with empathy and openness.

Whisper
Wednesday @ 6:30 PM in the Lobby
Facilitator: TBA

Description: Many people have a tough time believing that God still speaks. Do you know how to listen?

Young at Heart
Wednesdays @ 2:00 PM in Room 107
Facilitators: Vondie Cook Sr. & Dana Hosch
Description: A special time just for our seniors!

Register Now

Men's Ministry

Kick Off Celebration & Super Bowl Party
February 8 at 6:00 PM

Guys, mark your calendars! Church members picked up empty stockings, filled them with care items, and returned them to the church for distribution through the V.A. Hospital and outpatient clinic. Each stocking represented a tangible expression of gratitude to those who have served our nation.
We set an ambitious goal of filling 100 stockings. What happened next perfectly captures the generous spirit of our church family—you didn't just meet the goal, you exceeded the goal, filling a total of 136 stockings!

These stockings will bring Christmas joy to veterans throughout our community, reminding them that their sacrifice and service haven't been forgotten. It's a small gesture that carries enormous meaning to those who receive them.

Thank you, Cross Point family, for your overwhelming generosity and for making this outreach such a remarkable success. Your willingness to go above and beyond demonstrates the heart of our church and our commitment to serving those who have served us all.

Winter Small Groups Begin January 7

The next session of small groups will begin on January 7 and run for 6 weeks, concluding on February 11. The core idea is that God is always at work, and the Christian life is about discovering what He is doing and joining Him in His work. This involves a shift from a self-centered life to a God-centered one, where individuals obey His will, and He accomplishes His purposes through them. Join us as we grow together in our faith and discover what it means to live in step with God’s will.

PLEASE NOTE: This small group is 13 weeks in length. In order to get the most out of this study, you are asked to commit to attend every session. There are also weekly assignments based on each week's lesson. If you are not able to commit to attend every session and to do the homework, we recommend you consider participating in this study at a later time.

What the Bible Teaches
Wednesday @ 6:30 PM in Lobby
Facilitator: Pastor Vondie
Description: This study explores core doctrines of Scripture. Together we’ll walk through foundational truths that include God, humanity, salvation, the church, and the kingdom, learning how these teachings shape our faith and daily lives.

One at a Time
Wednesday @ 6:30 PM in Room 106
Facilitator: Brittany Ferguson
Description: We all long to make a difference, but it’s easy to get lost in the routines of life. Jesus shows us the secret: impact happens one at a time. In this study, we’ll explore how His encounters with individuals reveal the power of focusing on the one in front of us—and how we can live that way too.

Young at Heart
Wednesdays @ 2:00 PM in Room 107
Facilitators: Vondie Cook Sr. & Dana Hosch
Description: A special time just for our seniors!

Register Now

Starting Point – January 18 at 12:30 PM in Room 107

New to Cross Point? While turning the page on a calendar is merely a symbolic gesture, something powerful happens in our minds, hearts, and spirits when we mark a new beginning. The fresh start of a new year reminds us that God is a God of new beginnings—of second chances, restored hope, and renewed purpose. As we step into 2026, we have the opportunity to reset our priorities, refocus our vision, and recommit ourselves to living as the people God has called us to be.

This new beginning takes on even deeper meaning when we understand it through the lens of the Kingdom of God. As believers in Jesus, we inhabit a unique reality—we are citizens of both an earthly kingdom and a heavenly one. We live in this world, paying taxes, working jobs, and navigating the complexities of daily life. Yet simultaneously, we walk in fellowship with God as members of His eternal Kingdom. This dual citizenship isn't a contradiction; it's the tension in which we're called to live faithfully, allowing our heavenly identity to shape how we engage with our earthly responsibilities.

Being Kingdom people fundamentally changes how we see the world around us. When we embrace our identity as citizens of God's Kingdom, we view our neighbors differently, we handle conflict with grace, we steward our resources generously, and we pursue justice and mercy with passion. We stop living reactively to the pressures and anxieties of our culture and start living proactively in line with the values and principles of heaven. Our Kingdom identity means that love trumps fear, service outweighs status, and eternal significance matters more than temporary success.

As we begin 2026, let's commit together to living as Kingdom people. Not perfectly—we'll stumble and fall as we always have. But intentionally. Let's ask ourselves throughout this year: "Does this decision reflect my citizenship in God's Kingdom? Does this conversation honor the King I serve? Does this use of my time and resources align with Kingdom priorities?" The calendar may have simply turned a page, but our hearts can experience genuine transformation as we choose, once again, to walk faithfully with the God who invites us to begin again.

Love,
Pastor Vondie and Lori

Attendance & Giving Numbers for November

Each month we will include attendance and financial information from the most recently completed month. The past 35 years can be described like this, too. As we have grown together, we have observed God piecing together Cross Point. God has used your faith, love, joy, and struggle to create what we see here. What God has and is making at Cross Point is truly beautiful.

Also in these thirty-five years, you have stood with me through seasons of abundance and scarcity, never wavering in your support of the ministry. You have loved not only me, but my family through these years. You have prayed for my shortcomings, celebrated our victories, and walked alongside all of us through valleys I could not have walked through alone. Your faithfulness is like the two big oak trees in our yard. You have stood the test of time.

Your steadfast hearts have been the living embodiment of Christ's love, and your encouragement has been like the men who held up Moses’ arms when he could not hold them up for the battle. As we mark this milestone together, let us never forget the God who has brought us this far and for His guidance going forward. What He has begun in us is not complete until every person in our part of West Virginia and beyond knows our Savior in a personal way. What God has begun, He is faithful to complete it.

Thank you for allowing me the profound privilege of serving as your pastor for these thirty-five blessed years.

Love,
Pastor Vondie and Lori

Our ministry to those, who because of age or other health issues, are unable to attend church involves sending monthly cards and gifts at Christmas. Past activities have focused on the Sparrow’s Nest (which is a part of Brian’s Safe House Ministry), Care boxes, and donations to various projects within the church. Most recently our group began working with the Fruits of Labor Recovery program by providing items that were needed by their participants such as devotional books and diapers for the babies whose mothers are enrolled in the program. On March 31, 2025, our group was invited by Fruits of Labor staff to a Brunch to honor those individuals who have and are providing support to the individuals enrolled in their program. Twelve of our club members were able to attend the Brunch. Not only did we enjoy a delicious meal, but each of us also received flowers that had been arranged in a mug or small vase. Most importantly, our hearts were touched and we were inspired by the dedication of staff of Fruits of Labor to providing a Christian based recovery program which focuses on strengthening the participants’ relationship with God while assisting them to acquire a new career path.

The Cross Point Church’s Women’s Book Club will meet on Tuesday, May 20, at 10:30 A.M. in the church conference room. Our book club discussion will focus on the book “The Keeper of Happy Endings.” The author, Barbara Davis, writes about an unlikely friendship that develops between two women who later discover that their lives have eerie parallels. The author reminds us that “broken dreams” sometimes can be mended. All women are invited to join the book club gathering. Books are provided free of charge to any woman wishing to participate and can be picked up in the church office.

The Lord brought 710 people through our doors to celebrate the resurrection of our Savior Jesus Christ, plus many more joining us online from their homes. Last year, we celebrated our biggest Easter with 612 in attendance. What a difference a year makes.

Like the stone rolled away from the tomb, the barriers that once kept people from church seem to be falling away. Just as the disciples were amazed at the empty tomb, we stand amazed at how God continues to work in our community. This record attendance isn't just a number – it represents 710 hearts open to hearing the Good News and countless opportunities for lives to be transformed by God's grace. The empty tomb still draws people to Jesus.

As Mother's Day approaches on May 11th, we pause to celebrate the women who have shaped our lives with their nurturing spirits and steadfast love. Proverbs 31:28 reminds us, "Her children arise and call her blessed." Mothers are like the Appalachian Mountains that surround us – steady, protective, and bearing the weathering of time with quiet strength and dignity. Whether you're a mother by birth, adoption, or through mentorship, we honor your servant leadership in guiding the next generation. Join us for our special Mother's Day service where we'll recognize these precious women in our congregation.

We will finish off May with Memorial Day. We will take time to remember those who have finished their race and now rest in the arms of our Lord. Like footprints on a well-worn path, the influence of these faithful servants continues to guide our steps even in their absence. We remember not just those who served our country, but all the saints who once filled our seats, taught our Sunday School classes, and built the foundation our church now stands. As Hebrews 12:1 reminds us, we are "surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses" who cheer us on from glory.

Ministry is moving forward at Cross Point!

Love,
Pastor Vondie and Lori

The resurrection of Jesus is like a seed planted in fertile soil that continues to grow and bear fruit throughout our lives. Much like a mountain forest that reveals different aspects of its beauty and resources each season, our understanding of the resurrection deepens over time and as we give God our attention.

Here are some key aspects of how Jesus’ resurrection takes root in our lives:
Our Ongoing Understanding Similar to how a mountain trail at Grandview reveals new views at each turn, our comprehension of the resurrection isn't static. What begins as a historical fact gradually transforms into a living reality that shapes our identity and purpose. Many believers can point to specific moments when the resurrection's implications suddenly become more precise as the fog lifts from a valley.

Implications for Leadership As someone involved in servant leadership, you might appreciate how the resurrection fundamentally redefines power. Jesus demonstrated that true authority comes through self-giving love and sacrifice, not domination. Like a mountain stream that gains strength by flowing downward, Christian leadership finds its power in humility and service.

Community Dimension The resurrection created a new kind of community: the church. Like an old-fashioned homecoming where family members return to their roots, the resurrection gathers people into a family where old divisions are healed. This community becomes a living witness to the resurrection power of Jesus Christ.

Help in Difficult Times Just as our families have historically demonstrated resilience through harsh winters and challenging conditions, the resurrection provides unshakable help and hope. It assures us that God's redemptive work continues even in our darkest moments. As the poem Footprints in the Sand reminds us, when I needed God’s help the most, there was only one set of footprints. That is when Jesus revealed he carried us in those moments.
Everyday Transformation The resurrection of Jesus isn't merely a past event but a present reality working in us. Like the change of seasons transforming a hillside, the resurrection power renews our thinking, relationships, and purpose.

What aspect of the resurrection’s implications speaks to you this Easter season? This is a great time to renew your commitment to faith in Jesus, make His mission your mission, and invite your friends and family to church with you on Easter Sunday!

This love wasn't merely expressed in words but demonstrated through the ultimate sacrifice of Jesus Christ on the cross.

"Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one's life for one's friends." - John 15:13

Consider how Jesus, knowing the suffering that awaited Him, still chose to endure the cross. In Gethsemane, He prayed, "Father, if you are willing, take this cup from me; yet not my will, but yours be done" (Luke 22:42). This moment perfectly captures both the human struggle and divine commitment to love's highest calling.

The cross stands as the intersection of God's perfect love and justice. As Paul writes in Romans 5:8, "But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us." This sacrifice wasn't made for perfect people, but for broken, flawed humanity - for each of us.

"This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us." - 1 John 3:16

Reflection Questions

How has God's sacrificial love transformed your understanding of what true love means? Consider a time when you experienced this divine love in your own life.

In what ways can you mirror Christ's sacrificial love in your relationships with others? Think about specific situations where you might be called to put others before yourself.

The cross demonstrates that love often comes at a great cost. What "crosses" might God be asking you to bear out of love for others in your current season of life?

Ephesians 3:20 reminds us that God "is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine," setting the foundation for limitless divine possibilities. Like a mountain stream carving new paths through ancient rock, God's power continuously shapes fresh opportunities in our lives. When we open our hearts to imagine beyond our earthly limitations, we position ourselves to witness His extraordinary work unfolding before us.
Drawing from Jeremiah 29:11, we learn that God's plans for us are for prosperity and hope, not harm. Just as a hillside spring brings forth new life after winter, we must expect God's promises to bloom in season. This expectation isn't passive waiting but active preparation for His promises to materialize, knowing that "faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see" (Hebrews 11:1).

Experiencing God's work requires intentional engagement, much like a skilled craftsman who recognizes the master's touch in every detail. Psalm 34:8 invites us to "taste and see that the Lord is good," encouraging firsthand experience of His faithfulness. As we walk in the kingdom, we know the importance of being present in each moment. We, too, must remain alert and engaged as God's plans unfold, documenting His faithfulness like landmarks on our spiritual journey.

The joy of walking with God surpasses all earthly pleasures, as Psalm 16:11 declares, "You make known to me the path of life; you will fill me with joy in your presence."

Like sharing stories around a warm fireplace hearth, we find deep satisfaction in recounting God's faithfulness. Never forget as we Imagine the Possibilities what we find in Romans 15:13 further enriches this truth: "May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you believe in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit." Our enjoyment of God's work becomes a testimony that draws others to experience His goodness.

Just Imagine the Possibilities!
Love, Pastor Vondie

These master builders would begin their work with nothing more than a vision and a foundation stone. Though they knew they might never see the completed cathedral in their lifetime, they laid each stone with precision and purpose, guided by a blueprint that stretched far beyond their years.

Like these cathedral builders, we, too, are called to build something greater than ourselves. The prophet Habakkuk writes, "Write the vision and make it plain... though it tarries, wait for it" (Habakkuk 2:2-3). This ancient wisdom speaks directly to us today as we look toward the future of our church family.

Vision isn't just about seeing what lies ahead; it's about seeing what could be through God's eyes. Just as a carpenter first sees the table in the raw lumber or a sculptor sees the masterpiece in the uncut stone, we must see the potential that God has planted within our congregation.

As we enter this new year, let us be like those cathedral builders – faithful in the small things, patient in our progress, and unwavering in our commitment to the greater vision God has given us. Whether we're strengthening our children's ministry, expanding our community outreach, or deepening our worship experience, each "stone" we lay this year builds toward something eternal.

Let us join together in prayer, asking not just for sight but for vision – the kind of vision that sees beyond the immediate and into God's greater purpose for our church family. For as Proverbs 29:18 reminds us, "Where there is no vision, the people perish."

This year, let's commit to being both visionaries and builders, dreaming big dreams while remaining faithful in the small steps that will take us there.

Love,
Pastor Vondie and Lori

The birth of Jesus wasn't just an event—it was a celebration that brought forth songs from both heaven and earth.

Luke 2 presents us with an extraordinary musical. From the angels' triumphant chorus of "Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, goodwill toward men" to the shepherds returning to their fields "glorifying and praising God," the first Christmas was filled with divine melodies.

These weren't just songs - they were proclamations of hope, declarations of God's faithfulness, and expressions of pure joy. Mary's song reminds us that God's promise of salvation reaches across generations. The aged Simeon sang his song of fulfillment upon seeing the infant Jesus, declaring him "a light for revelation to the Gentiles, and the glory of your people Israel."

I invite our church family to join in this timeless chorus this Christmas season. When we sing our beloved carols, we're not just remembering a historical event - we're participating in an ongoing celebration that began in Bethlehem and continues in our hearts today.

Let every carol we sing remind us of that first Christmas symphony. Whether it's "Silent Night" or "Joy to the World," our songs join with the angels' proclamation that our Savior has come. In a world that often seems discordant, Christmas reminds us that God's perfect harmony breaks through in the person of Jesus Christ.

As your pastor, I pray that you'll experience the joy of these Christmas songs in a fresh way this year. Let's raise our voices together, joining heaven and earth in celebrating the greatest gift ever given—Emmanuel, God with us.

May your Christmas be filled with the music of heaven and the peace
that only Christ can bring.

With love and anticipation for this blessed season,

Pastor Vondie and Lori

November is upon us. This month has many varied and vital elements built into it each year, yet some years are more pivotal. This year would be one of those crucial years. This month, we will elect the leader of the free world. This is an ominous task that requires more wisdom than human beings possess. I know you are praying for the election and seeking God’s face as you cast your ballot. I also know you pray for the nation and God’s guidance to be felt and seen. Prayer is the most important thing we can ever do. Let me say that, again, prayer is the most important thing we can ever do. The second most important thing is to participate in the process. You and I are called to pray and then put legs on those prayers voting. If every Christ follower would live out their Christian faith in the voting booth, America would change. This month, make sure you pray and participate in the election.

This month is also the time when we honor our veterans—those who have served and are serving our nation. We are so blessed at Cross Point to have so many who have served. We will be honoring you in service on November 10. Without men and women who have served and defended our way of life, we would not be able to vote this month. THANK YOU to all those who have served and are serving. WE LOVE YOU!

Next is SYC (State Youth Convention). For Lori and I, SYC has many fond memories and was where lifelong friendships were created and nourished. I am so happy we can transport our growing youth ministry this year with Cross Point vehicles. The cost of van rentals was becoming untenable. If you have youth-age children, I hope you will ensure your kids get to SYC. The life change that results sets our young people on a trajectory with God that cannot be matched elsewhere. SYC is not just an event; it's a catalyst for positive change in our youth, shaping them into strong, faithful individuals. Vacations are nice. Extra-curricular activities have their place, but SYC has and does make an eternal difference in our kids' lives.

Lastly, Thanksgiving is not only a day; it should be a way of life for the believer. The blessings we experience daily by walking with Christ cannot be overlooked. Let's take a moment to reflect on these blessings and express our gratitude. This practice of thanksgiving enriches our spiritual life and brings joy and contentment. So this year, as you celebrate, recognize where our blessings originate. As we are thankful for one another, let’s ensure that our God gets the ultimate recognition for being the author and the recipient of our praise and adoration.

Happy November!!

Love,
Pastor Vondie and Lori

Join your Cross Point church family and the Beckley Fire Fighters Association in providing warm jackets to children in our community. Every $25 we receive helps purchase a warm jacket for a child. Our goal is to sponsor 200 coats by October 31.

Here’s how to help:
Donate $25 for every coat you’d like to sponsor. When writing a check, make it payable to Cross Point Church and write “Operation Warm” on the memo line. If giving cash, simply write “Operation Warm” on a tithing envelope found in the auditorium chairs or at the Welcome Center in the lobby. Then drop your gift in the giving boxes in the auditorium or mail it to the church office.

You can also conveniently and securely give using the Cross Point App. Just click on “Operation Warm” when making your donation.

When we are equipped, we are able to make the most of our time and resources, and take advantage of the unstoppable opportunities God gives us to truly impact the lives of others. One way Cross Point helps to equip our church family is through small groups. These are smaller, more intimate groups that gather mid-week to dive into specific topics related to and supporting our faith, such as a Bible study in a specific book, a study on families, parenting, marriage, who is God, how to walk with Jesus and many many more.

Here are just a few ways joining a small group benefits our church family.

1. Small groups lead to transformation. Building intimate friendships, learning about faith, becoming a people of prayer and study, and connecting to God.

2. Small groups lead to connection with one another.

3. Small groups increase in spiritual growth. Friendships grow as we begin to speak love and truths to one another.

4. Small groups increase in serving. Small groups create an outlet for ministry, planning and serving the community together.

The next series of Small Groups will start on October 9th, be sure and check out future Worship Guides for more details on the specific classes offered.
